Title: Festschrift zum 70. Geburtstage des Herrn Geh. Raths Prof. Dr. A. Weismann.
Description: Jena, Gustav Fischer, 1904. Thick 8vo (24.3 x 16.3 cm). 750 pp.; 33 mostly tinted lithographed plates (several larger, folded, or multifolded) Original printed wrappers. = August Friedrich Leopold Weismann (1834-1914) was a German evolutionary biologist, who was ranked by the great 20th-century evolutionary biologist Ernst Mayr (1904-2005) as the second most notable evolutionary theorist of the 19th century, after Charles Darwin. The present work is diverse zoological/anatomical convolute published on the occasion of Weismann's 70th birthday. With 21 contributions by Weismann's colleagues and students. Well-illustrated. Particularly nice are the illustrations of Woltereck's contribution on Velella, and the paperby Friese and Wagner on Alpine and Arctic bumblebees. Published as Zoologische Jahrbücher Supplement VII. Uncut. Wrappers somewhat soiled and frayed/chipped at edges, otherwise a very good, clean, and unmarked copy. Very uncommon.
