Slightly later black half cloth over marbled boards; Original front wrapper mounted. = A rare paper by the German zoologist (principally entomologist) Prof. Dr. Kurt Lampert (1859-1918). In this paper, published as Mitteilungen aus dem Kgl. Naturalien-Kabinett zu Stuttgart No. 84, the author describes and illustrates the okapi from Central African forests, a sensationally large, pecurial relative of the giraffe which escaped western zoologists until 1901. One plate shows a mount of an adult okapi at the Stuttgarter Naturalien-Kabinett - perhaps the first specimen on display in Germany. Lampert is also known from his contributions to the Zoologisches Wörterbuch. Erklärung der zoologischen Fachausdrücke.
