Title: Über den Vogelzug auf der Schlangeninsel im Schwarzen Meer.
Description: Berlin, R. Friedländer & Sohn, 1930. Large 4to (31.2 x 25.6 cm). 42 pp., one plate, 18 text illustrations. Slightly later blue half cloth over blue marbled boards. Spine with gilt lines and title. Speckled edges. Original printed wrappers bound in. = An exceptionally well-bound - and well-preserved - copy from the famous Wassenaar Zoo library. The work deals with the avifauna - mainly migrating birds - on a small, Ukrainian island in the Black Sea. "Snake Island is an igneous rock formation located 35 km from the coast, east of the mouth of the Danube River. The island's coordinates are 45°15'18"N 30°12'15"E. The island is X-shaped, 690 meters from S-W to N-E by 682 meters from N-W to S-E, covering an area of 0.205 km2. The highest area is 41 metres (135 ft) above sea level. The island does not have a prominently featured mountain, but rather a low-slope hill. The nearest coastal location to the island is Kubanskyi Island on the Ukrainian part of the Danube Delta, located 35 km (22 mi) away between the Bystroe Channel and Skhidnyi Channel. The closest Romanian coastal city, Sulina, is 45 km (28 mi) away." (Wikipedia). This is Abhandlungen aus dem Gebiete der Vogelzugforschung Nr. 2. The plate contains six photos of scenery. A very good, clean copy. Not in any major bibliography.
