Hand-coloured engraved plate with printed caption. = Well preserved hand-coloured engraving of red, brown, and green algae, after original drawings by the renowned French botanical artist Alfred Riocreux (1820-1912) or perhaps his father, the miniaturist Denis-Désiré Riocreux (1791-1872) and finely engraved by his compatriot, the natural history illustrator and engraver Canu. A few tiny spots; left edge very slightly irregular, with some light fraying. No creases, dents or tears present. Nissen ZBI, 3021; Sabin, 57457.
