Title: Proof prints from: Beschouwing der wonderen Gods, in de minst geachte schepzelen. Of Nederlandsche insecten, naar hunne aanmerkelijke huishouding, verwonderlijke gedaante-wisseling en andere wetenswaardige bijzonderheden, volgens eigen ondervinding beschreeven, naar leven naauwkeurig getekent, in 't koper gebracht en gekleurd. Second Series by S. C. Snellen Van Vollenhoven.
Description: Amsterdam, Sepp & Zonen, 1855. Folio (ca. 36.0 x 27.0 cm; a few smaller, trimmed). Nine proof plates, all but one hand-coloured. = A collection of nine proof plates, being the first four plates of part VIII, and including two in two states: one signed by Snellen Van Vollenhoven, approving the colouring; another one hand-coloured and plain. The ninth plate is from before numbers and has a pencilled note next to the fodder plant "dit blad iets geler" (this leaf slightly more yellowish), and another one about diminishing the top margin. This plate is not present in Volume VIII. To which (Dutch) publication it belongs is not (yet) known. The Dutch entomologist Samuel Constant Snellen van Vollenhoven (1816-1880) was one of the foremost Dutch entomologists of the mid-19th century. A few plates with marginal tears and chips, and some soiling, otherwise good. A unique collection. Horn-Schenkling, 20145; Landwehr, 183; Nissen ZBI, 3808.
