Author: Schroeter, J. J. Title: New observations in further proof of the mountainous inequalities, rotation, atmosphere, and twilight, of the planet Venus.
Description: London, The Royal Society, 1795. Large 4to (29.3 x 23.3 cm). 60 pp.; four large, folded plates (numbered XII-XV). Disbound. = This work was communicated to the Royal Society by George Best, who translate the work from the German, and published in their Philosophical Transactions. This is, however, the first publication. It predates the author's famous Aphroditographischen Fragmente. The German astronomer Johann Hieronymus Schroeter, or Schröter (1745-1816) discovered the so-called Schroeter-effect; an anomaly in the timing of the phases of the planet. Here, the author's name is anglicized into John Jerome. Edges uncut. Plates lightly spotted, small chip in one plate outer margin, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
