Uniform red leatherette with gilt title on the spines. The two books with pictorial (full colour photos) dust jackets, the slipcase with full colour photo mounted. = A fine, massive, richly illustrated geological and geographical description of the Dolomites, a mountain range in the southern, Italian part of the Alps. Included are sections on the mineralogy, palaeontology (Permian to Cretaceous, mainly marine faunas including the famous St. Cassian faunas), stratigraphy, and tectonics; all well-illustrated and with many tables and references. The work was written and edited by the member of the Accademia dei Lincei, geologist, and "Dolomitologist" Piero Leonardi (1908-1998), with the assistance of many specialists in the fields of geology, palaeontology, archaeology, etc. Text in Italian, with summaries in English at the end of each chapter. Previous owner's small, thin pencilled name on front free endpapers, small bump to the corner of a few text leaves, and to the slipcase, otherwise a fine set.
