Title: Ueber das Krystallisationssystem des Quarzes.
Description: Berlin, G. Reimer, 1846. Large 4to (26.2 x 22.2 cm). 58 pp.; six plates (on five sheets; one folding). Later red cloth with gilt title on the spine. Original printed front wrapper bound in. = Rare, detailed, and well-illustrated treatise on the forming of quartz, written by the German mineralogist Gustav Rose (1789-1873). He had a particular interest in the relationship between the crystalline form and the physical properties of minerals, and is credited for developing a mineral system that was a combination of chemistry, isomorphy and morphology. In 1829 with German naturalists Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) and Christian Gottfried Ehrenberg (1795-1876), Rose took part in a scientific expedition throughout Imperial Russia (Wikipedia). Some light spotting, otherwise a very good copy. Rare. Cat. BM(NH) p. 1730. Neither in Sinkankas, nor in Ward & Carozzi.
