Based on the Chinese herpetofauna the author recognizes four faunal subprovinces. Mell lived in China between 1908 and 1924 and wrote three popular books "each with a disproportionately large herpetological content" (Adler). As noted by Adler, this is his major herpetological work. Weak old stamps on the title page top margin and verso, otherwise a good, clean copy. Adler II, pp. 154-155.
