Title: Les cyanophycées des côtes d'Europe.
Description: Saint-Lo, Société Nationale des Sciences Naturelles et Mathématiques de Cherbourg, 1934. Large 8vo (24.2 x 15.5 cm). 234 pp. with 66 fine plates. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt lines and title. = Important and very rare contribution to the Cyanophyceae (Myxophyceae), or blue algae, a phylum of bacteria that obtain their energy through photosynthesis, with clear keys and descriptions, and including new species by the French botanist Abbé Pierre Frémy (1880-1944, victim of a D-Day bombing raid). This work seems to be originally published in the society's Mémoires between 1929-1933. Stafleu noted: "almost certainly published as a whole in 1933". However, the original wrapper of this copy states that it is an offprint from the society's Mémoirs volume 41, and is dated 1934. There is an Asher reprinted edition which, however, is rare too. Boards and spine ends rubbed; binding weak with a few plates nearly detached. Otherwise a very good copy. Stafleu and Cowan, 1854.
