Folio (38.5 x 27.8 cm). 20 pp. Disbound. = Important paper by Christian Doppler (1803-1853), the discoverer of the scientifically very important "Doppler-effect" which finds its practical way in physics, in particular astrophysics. This paper, "An attempt to explain - on a purely mechanical basis - the galvano-electrical and magnetic polarity phenomena", his first publication on this subject, was published in the academy's Denkschriften, and deals principally with electro-magnetism. Doppler read the paper in June 1848. It took more than a year until it was printed. A very good, clean and wide-margined copy. Bibliotheca Mathematica, p. 155.
