Description: Paris, G. Masson, 1892. 8vo (23.0 x 14.7 cm). viii, 650 pp.; three plates. Slightly later half morocco over marbled boards. Spine with four gilt-lined raised bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers. = This is in all probably the author's proof copy, as each livraison is dated (to the day) separately, many also carrying the printer's stamp, and with many corrections in the text throughout, and the preface dated in pencil. Charles Émile Moreau (1823-1896), was one of the leading French ichthyologists at the end of the 19th century. Also with the fine pictorial bookplate of Andre Gaultry, medical doctor in the town of Sens, on the front paste down, and with Gaultry's stamp on the half title. Paper quality varying, some sections age-toned, others fresh. A unique copy. Dean II, p. 154.
