Hand-written paper label on the spine. = Interesting work on the breeding and variability in domesticated mammals, including horses, cattle and dogs. The author, the German agriculturist Johann Friedrich Leberecht Schmalz (1781-1847), died before publication of his manuscript and this was subsequently done by his son, Hermann Schmalz (1807-1879). In 1832 another paper by Friedrich Schmalz was actually published, titled "Thierveredlungskunde" and according to his son the present work is a continuation. The elder Schmalz is mainly known for his publications on agricultural subjects, both men were "Professor für Landwirtschaftslehre". Small private owner's stamp on the front flyleaf and title page, old stamp of the "Biblioth.Duc.Altenburg" on the title page blank verso, otherwise a very good clean copy. Very rare. Not in Cat. BM(NH).
