Large 4to (ca. 33.0 x 27.0 cm), with over 1200 plates (188 in colour) including lithographed and chromolithographed plates, some etchings and photographic plates. Partly original printed wrappers, partly blind wrappers. = Very rare complete set of the results of the largest oceanographical expedition to the Indonesian waters, renowned for its richness especially in zoological species of which nearly half were new to science (for example 131 new species of fishes) and including even more species than those of the famous Challenger Expedition. The most important Dutch contribution to oceanography and hydrobiology. Three plates (in part 72) in photostat. Some wrappers slightly damaged, a few with staps; a few with some staining to the interior, otherwise a very good set. We added: De Zeeën van Nederlandsch Oost-Indië (Indonesia), dealing with the same region, published in 1922, and including eight folding maps.
