Title: Symbolae physicae seu icones et descriptiones Zootomicorum, quae ex itinere per Africam Borealem et Asiam occidentalem. [Mammalium]. Decas Prima.
Description: Berlin, Ex officina Academia, 1899. Folio (49.8 x 35.0 cm). Ten original lithographed plates in original printed portfolio. = This is the part titled "Zootomica" with lithographed plates 1-7, 9-10 and 13, containing the genera Apis (a long-horned bovine, two different plates), Halicora (dugong, three different plates), Ursus (bear), Hyrax (hyrax, or dassie), Heterotidis, Scurius (a squirrel), Cercopithecus (a monkey) and Heterotidis (a fish, double) and Cephaloptera ( a ray), thus meanly showing mammalian skeletons and in particular skulls, and two plates showing soft anatomy of fish. Plate 9 is present in two copies. In total 10 plates. This is, as usual, only a collection of plates in original portfolio. The only detailed collation is by Wilhelm Junk who states that the Zootomica was not published until 1899. It was never completed. Plates numbered 8 and 14 were issued, but not plates 12-13. The portfolio, therefore, is largely supplemental to the first mammalian decade, which was published in 1828. A few light spots in a few margins, otherwise very good, clean. Junk Rara, p. 138; Nissen ZBI, 1247.
