Title: G. A. Haggenmacher's Reise im Somali-Lande 1874.
Description: Gotha, Justus Perthes, 1876. 4to (26.4 x 22.2 cm). 42 pp., one coloured map. Disbound. = Gustav Adolf Haggenmacher (1845-1875) was a Swiss explorer and spy in the service of Egypt. He travelled through the Horn of Africa from December 1873 to March 1874. These are the results of his voyage. On a second voyage, in 1875, he died in Afar, Ethiopia. Published in Ergänzungsheft 47 of Petermann's famous Geographische Mitteilungen. Apart from the narrative it includes chapters on the fysical geography, ethnography and ethnology, farming, industry and trade, a history of the Somali's, and a detailed meteorological table. The map is quite detailed, as always. Map loose, otherwise a very good, clean copy. Rare.
