Original uniform blindstamped cloth with gilt vignette on front boards and gilt title on spines. Top edge gilt. Yellow endpapers. = An unusually clean and well-preserved set. Especially renowned for its brilliant colour plates. With a large bibliography, general and systematic index. It includes two peculiar frontispieces, one titled "To my wife Anne", with a winged nude sitting on a whelk with a hermit crab and, and one with sea fairies. Slight sunning to spines and edges, but otherwise almost as new. Very rare in this condition. .
