Description: Grenoble, Prudhomme, 1835. 8vo (22.5 x 14.0 cm). xii, 296 pp.; one large, multi-folded, hand-coloured geological map of the Drôme department, dated 1834. Original printed wrappers. = With a rare and most probably first coloured geological map of this lovely department in Southeastern France. With a scale of 1:30.000 it is quite detailed. Lithographed by Levrault in Strasbourg. The author, Joseph Scipion Gras (1806-1873) was a French geologist who wrote several similar works on the geology and mineralogy of French departments. Uncut; fore edge therefore rather creased. Repair to the spine and lower margin of the title page, as well as a part of the blank region on p. 296 (last), probably hiding a stamp; scattered foxing; otherwise very good.
