Marbled endpapers. = Most probably one of the first explanatory notes to the maps of this French department near Orleans, and including that town, and Loire or Sologne. Michel-Eugène Lefébure de Fourcy (1812-1889) was a French engineer, geologist and topographer who publised several regional geological maps and accompagnying explicative text volumes. See Cat. BM(NH) quoting another geological map and explanation by De Fourcy. This one contains a description of the department's topography, the geology including the sables et grès marine de Fontainebleau and calcaire de la Beance, and a statistical part with, for instance, an enumeration of the towns and villages and their number of inhabitants. A very good, clean copy in a nice binding. Rare. Cat. BM(NH), p. 600.
