Title: A natural history of new and rare ferns, containing species and varieties none of which are included in any of the eight volumes of "Ferns: British and exotic", amongst which are the new Hymenophyllums and Trichomanes.
Description: London, Bell and Daldy, 1871. 4to (25.2 x 17.2 cm). viii, 192 pp., 72 chromolithographed plates and small engraved vignettes above each species description. Original green cloth. Front board with large gilt vignette and extensive blind stamped patterns; rear board the same, without gilt; spine similar, with gilt title. Yellow endpapers. = The second edition (first: 1862). Dedicated to Sir John Frederick William Herschel "respectfully dedicated, as a small token on the esteem in which this true philosopher is held". Inscribed on the front pastedown and dated 1875. Hinges starting, a tear in one text-leaf, first and last pages a bit foxed. Plates not foxed, however, slightly age-toned, as always. A better than average copy. Nissen BBI, 1245.
