Description: Paris, Firmin Didot Frères, [1837] 1838. 4to (28.0 x 22.1 cm). 28 pp., Original printed wrappers. = This rare, palaeo-botanical essay by the French botanist and palaeontologist Adolphe Théodore Brongniart (1801-1876) was read at the Académie Royale des Sciences in 1837, and published in the academy's Comptes Rendu 5 (pp. 403-415), and again in the academy's Mémoires 16 (pp. 397-424) (see Laurent). This however, is the rare offprint, with pagination starting with 1. Advertisement for the author's Histoire des végétaux fossiles printed on the rear wrapper. Interestingly, that work was abandoned in 1838, when only 15 of a projected 24 parts were published (see Stafleu and Cowan - who do not record the present essay). Uncut, thus very wide-margined.
