Description: Zürich, Schweizerische Naturforschende Gesellschaft, 1847-1853. Three parts in two. 4to (25.5 x 20.7 cm). Title pages, 642 pp. [239; 264; 139]; 40 lithographed plates [8; 17; 15]. Later half cloth with printed paper label on the spine (parts 1 and 2 combined), and original blind wrappers (part 3). = Rare monograph by the Swiss geologist and entomologist Oswald Heer (1809-1883) on well-preserved fossil insects from the Balkan region. The vast majority of the species and most of the genera are new. The plates are very detailed. The pagination indicates that these are offprints from the Denkschriften der allgemeinen Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für die gesammten Naturwissenschaften. The work was published here over a rather long period of time and is seldom seen complete. The third part is very rare. This third part with the author's dedication to "Herrn Dr. Rehmann" in ink on the front wrapper.
