Contemporary marbled boards. = Rare early botanical journal - dedicated to Sir Joseph Banks - of which only two volumes were published. With contributions by Hoffmannnsegg and Link, Desfontaines, Deleuze, Edwards, Salisbury, Smith, Cavaniles, Swartz, Roth, and others. The journal was edited by the German botanist Carl ["Charles"] Dietrich Eberhard König [Konig, Koenig] (1774-1851) and his British colleague John Sims (1749-1831), who contributed several papers. On the title page it is stated that the actual publishing was done between May 1804 and January 1805. Stafleu and Cowan (vol. II, p. 602) report only 12 plates, not listing the 13th, hand-coloured plate. Plate 9 is larger, folded, and contains facsimile autographs of several botanists, including Joseph Banks. Uncut, Spine perished - needs rebinding. Some foxing in the text and on most plates, a few light pencil marks, otherwise good, complete. Stafleu and Cowan, 3827.
