Original uniform printed wrappers. = First edition of the collected letters by Nicolaus Steno (1638-1686) to Leibniz and Cosimo III in Florence between 1660-1680. In 1669, Steno published his famous "De Solido intra Solidum Naturaliter contento dissertationis prodomus" widely regarded as the foundation of geology, palaeontology and crystallography. ADDED: J. Clean, unmarked copy. Scherz volumes uncut. One of 400 copies on laid paper. The first Scherz volume with the armorial bookplate of A. C. C. Melchiors on the front pastedown, and a handwritten and signed dedication by Scherz to Melchiors, dated 5.XII.1963 on the half-title. Both with Knud B. Melchiors name (son of A. C. C. Melchiors?) written in pencil on the half-titles. Otherwise very good, clean.
