Title: A monograph of the British lichens. A descriptive catalogue of the species in the Department of Botany, British Museum. Part I. Second edition. Part II. Second edition revised.
Description: London, The trustees of the British Museum, 1918-1926. Two parts in two. 8vo. 1000 pp. [xxiv, 520; ix, 447]; 134 lithographed plates [71; 63]. Original uniform green, blindstamped cloth. Spines with gilt title. = A fine, detailed, and extremely well-illustrated monograph by the British botanist and mycologist Annie Lorrain Smith (1854-1937). This is not a rare work, but it is certainly rare to see a uniform set of what is to be regarded as the final edition, which, compared to the first (1911-1918) edition, is much altered and expanded. Provenance: on the front pastedowns handwritten the name A. Tronchet, Faculté des Sciences (Laboratoire de Botanique) Lyon. Antonin Tronchet (1902-1990) was a French botanist. Slight wear to board and spine edges, second volume a bit cocked, otherwise a very good, clean set. Hawksworth and Seaward, 2205, 2210; Stafleu and Cowan, 12182. Not in Nissen BBI.
