Original blind boards. = Rare monograph (the author's thesis), being a comparative study of the skulls of wild bovines, in particular the extinct aurochs, the wild Asian water buffalo, and the African buffalo. The fine plates by were drawn by C. L. Müller and engraved by F. W. Linger. The author, Alexander Von Volborth (1800-1876) was a Russian palaeontologist. On the front cover the signed dedication by the author to the great Estonian zoologist Karl Ernst von Baer (1792-1876). Boards ` rubbed. Some very light offsetting. A very good copy. Neither in Nissen ZBI nor in Wood.
