Title: Faune ichthyologique du London Clay. [AND] Appendice: otolithes des poissons du London Clay.
Description: London, The British Museum (Natural History), 1966. Two volumes (text and atlas) in two. Large 4to (30.3 x 24.1 cm). xiv, 496 pp.; 24 text figures, 68 plates. Uniform embossed buckram with gilt title on the spines. In printed dust-jackets and preserved in an original cardboard box with printed label on top. = This is a combination of two monographs - one by the Belgian ichthyologist Edgar Casier (1904-1976) and dealing with all fish remains except otolites, and one by the British medical laboratory technician and amateur palaeontologist Frederick Charles "Fred" Stinton. Despite the title of the second work being given in French on the title pages, it is actually written in English. The descriptions of new speecies are in English too. In his preface, Errol White, Keeper of Palaeontology at the British Museum, expresses his surprise about the results: "The results are puzzling, for the two lists...instead of supporting and complementing one another, are almost completely mutually exclusive...". Many species are introduced here as new. The sturdy box shows little damage, the books and dust-jackets are in mint condition.
