Gilt ornamental lines and title on spine. = Although considered by the author as the second edition of his "Handbuch für Sammler der europäischen Grossschmetterlinge" (1891), this work has little to do with the former, being twice as large, twice as thick, with eight full plates where the "first" edition had none, and much more and more in-depth information on the ontogeny, phylogeny, zoogeography, and behaviour of the Lepidoptera. Many of the taxa illustrated were described by the author. Inscribed by a former owner (dated 18.6.1902). Light rubbing to board edges. Not an uncommon book, but this is an attractively bound, unusually fine copy. Neither in Nissen nor in Horn-Schenkling II.
