Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this copy is formed by the two different herpetological bookplates, each with an accompanying printed explanatory note, of the Australian herpetologist - or, rather, herpetology book collector - David Ross McPhee (ca. 1920-after 1996). The notes give the name of the artist, and in one case the original source of the image used (Krefft). The other bookplate is by the well-known Australian illustrator Jack Gadsdon, and made in 1973. This is the 2nd edition and still a classic for reptiles in the Pacific. This copy was previously sold for 80 Australian dollars (Item #356 of the Andrew Isles catalogue, 1996). Note that it covers amphibians too. A very good copy with an interesting provenance.
