Spine with five raised bands, gilt title and vignettes. Gilt text (price binding) on the front board. Marbled endpapers. = An important and rare work of freshwater algae with splendid detailed plates. Written by the French botanist and algae specialist Simon Sirodot (1825-1903). It was published in a plain and a coloured edition. This copy is not coloured. The binding is sumptuous; gilt text "Prix offert par M. le Ministre de Instruction Publique M. Carette" on the front board. Boards a bit rubbed at the edges, erased library stamp on the title page, a few stamps on text pages, one text page with a smudge, some light, marginal foxing, otherwise a good complete copy.
