Title: Botanical contributions. [25 offprints in two volumes].
Description: Cambridge, MA, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, 1858-1887. In two volumes. 8vo (22.2 x 14.3 cm). Ca. 750 pp. Uniform contemporary half calf over pebbled boards. Spines with five raised, gilt-bordered bands and gilt title. Floral patterned endpapers. = A compilation of Asa Gray's works published in the Academy's Proceedings, and with special half-titles, starting in volume 4 (1858), continued in volume 6, 7-8, 10 (all in the first compilation volume); 11, 13, 15-16, 17, 19 (both without half titles), 20-22. Gray continued publishing such contributions upto 1899, but apparently they were only issued separately and bundled up to 1887. It includes the important: Notes upon some Rubiaceae, collected in the U.S. South-Sea exploring Expedition under captain Wilkes with characters of new species; Diagnoses of the sandal-woods of the Sandwich Islands, etc., etc. Half title to the first chapter placed in the rear. Boards rather rubbed, spines rebacked. otherwise a good set. Stafleu and Cowan, 2123.
