Spine with five raised bands, compartments with gilt floral vignette and black morocco label with gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Speckled edges. Original printed front wrapper bound in. = The plates show different cross-sections. The place, length and directions of these cross-sectioned are indicated on the fine coloured map. Place and publisher are taken from the front wrapper; the title page, however, states: Nice, Imprimerie Typographique De Caisson et Mignon. This is a common book, but this copy is exceptionally well-bound. with on the front pastedown the large palaeontological bookplate (with the famous giant "cerith" from the Paris Basin Eocene beds, and ammonites) of the Parisian minerals and natural history dealer Alexander Stuer (?1860-after 1900). A nicely bound copy in much better than average condition.
