Original printed cloth with title on the front board and spine. = The account of the tremendous eruption of Mount Pelée on the French Caribbean island Martinique in 1902 which destroyed the capital St. Pierre with its 30.000 inhabitants, of which only one survived. The author, Angelo Heilprin (1853-1907), was a noted American geologist and malacologist. He finished the work but did not live to see it published. The illustrations are amazing. Slight shelf-wear, internally a very good, clean copy.
