Mary Johnston (November 21, 1870 – May 9, 1936) was an American novelist and women's rights advocate. She wrote historical books and novels that often combined romance with history. She used her fame to advocate women's rights, strongly supporting the women's suffrage movement. Three of Johnston's books were adapted to film; including Audrey, made into a silent film of the same name in 1916 In blue cloth bindings with gilt title detailing to front boards and spines. Externally, generally very smart, with some rubbing in places; slight bumping to the extremities, and a few marks. Internally, the bindings are generally firm but slightly strained in places. The pages are bright and clean with only scattered spotting and light foxing to the endpapers; all volumes but By Order of the Company have a personal ink copperplate inscription to the front pastedowns.
