Richard Hurd was an English divine and writer, later the bishop of Worcester. Hurd wrote extensively and broadly and his Letters on Chivalry and Romance are credited with influencing the Romantic movement. In attractive full calf bindings with gilt spine detailing and contrasting spine labels. Externally, smart, with rubbing to boards and score and scratch marks to the leather. Wear to the head of the spine to volume VIII. Personal bookplate of William Botfield to front pastedown of all volumes. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright, with occasional scattered spots but otherwise clean. Occasional pages creased at corners. Aroma of smoke to all volumes, stronger to first volume.
