The set consists of volumes I, III, IV, V, V and VI, and is missing volume II. With black and white illustrations and fold-out maps to all volumes. "Tactitus describes the city of London 'a famous mart of foreign and domestic trade;' were that judicious historian to see the extraordinary city, in her modern state, his opinion would be expanded and improvement it has undergone." In green cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines. Externally, generally smart, lightly rubbed in places. Spines are sunned. There is some bumping to the top and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with some age-toning. There are bookbinder's labels to the front pastedowns in all volumes.
