Thomas Chandler Haliburton (1796 - 1865) was a politician, judge, and author in the British Colony of Nova Scotia. He was the first international best-selling author from what is now Canada and played a significant role in the history of Nova Scotia prior to its entry into Confederation. Previous owner's ink inscriptions to front free endpapers dated 1882. In cloth bindings. Externally, sound but with some wear to extremities, slight marginal fading and occasional marks to boards, splitting to cloth to joints, one starting, backstrip lifting slightly to one volume. Two hinges strained, one slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound, slightly strained in places to second volume. Bright but with handling marks and occasional spots. Good . Ill.: None.
