The volumes present and their editions are: 'Odd Craft' is a first edition. 'Many Cargoes' is the twenty-sixth edition. 'Ship's Company' is the first edition. 'Short Cruises' is the first edition. 'The Lady of the Barge' is the second edition, as stated, published same year as the first. 'Dialstone Lane' is the first Methuen edition, before this the work was originally published by Messrs, George Newnes Ltd. in 1902. 'Night Watches' is a first edition, and is the binding state with the gilt stamping to spine. 'Sailors' Knots' is a first edition. 'Captain's All' is a first edition. With nine plates to 'Captains All', appears to be lacking one plate. With twelve plates to 'The Lady of the Barge', appears to be lacking plate from page 50 titled 'What's That? Cried the old Woman&apos. With a frontispiece and two colour plates to 'Night Watches', appears to possibly be missing three plates. With twelve plates to 'Sailor's Knots', complete. 'Odd Craft' has fifteen plates, appears to be lacking one plate from page 146 titled 'Poaching said the old man, aint what it used to be..' With 38 illustrations to 'Short Cruises', complete. With twenty three illustrations to 'Ship's Company', complete. No illustrations to 'Many Cargoes&apos. Set is collated, some volumes are lacking plates, as stated in detail above. W W Jacobs was an English writer of short stories and novels. Much of his work was humorous, however he is best remembered for his short horror story 'The Monkey's Paw' which can be found to 'The Lady of the Barge&apos. In original red cloth pictorial bindings. Externally, all volumes are generally smart with slight bumping to the head and tail of spines. Spine to 'Night Watches' is rubbed at the gilt and slightly faded compared to other volumes. Pictorial boards to 'Dialstone Lane' is also rather rubbed. Small patches of rubbing to the joints. Front hinge to 'Short Cruises' is strained but firm as is front hinge for 'Night Watches&apos. Rear hinge to 'Night Watches' is slightly strained but firm as is the rear hinge for 'Sailors' Knots&apos. Small stamp to verso of title page of 'Short Cruises', 'The Chapel River Press Kingston Surrey&apos. Gift inscription dated Christmas 1914 to half title page of 'Night Watches&apos. Prior owner's signature to half title of 'Many Cargoes', Adams. Evidence of bookplate removal to 'Many Cargoes&apos. Prior owner's signature to recto of front endpaper to 'Captain's All' dated 1905. Internally, most volumes are generally firmly bound though strained in places. Binding for 'Captain's All' and 'Night Watches' are tender. Several plates to 'Captain's All' are disbound. Several pages to 'Many Cargoes' have been trimmed shorter at the bottom edge than others. Tears to top corners of pages 179-182 of 'Ship's Company' not affecting text. Mostly, pages are generally bright with scattered spots throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages. Pages of 'Ship's Company' has offsetting to endpapers and is clean throughout. Good .
