George Payne Rainsford James was an English novelist and historical writer. He was for many years British Consul at various places in the United States and on the Continent, and held the honorary office of British Historiographer Royal during the last years of William IV's reign. With a charming hand-drawn illustration and inscription. Presented to Isabella by her "afflicted cousins Tom and Frank" dated 1865. In a half morocco binding with cloth covered boards and gilt detailing. Externally, rubbed, with damp staining to the boards. Front joint is starting. Front hinge is tender, and there are repairs to the rear hinge. Internally, firmly bound and generally bright. Handling marks throughout, with the occasional spot. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
