John Galsworthy - Six Short Plays

Title: Six Short Plays
Description: London, Duckworth and Co. 1921. First edition. Leather. A clean first UK edition of Six Short Plays by John Galsworthy. Bound in leather with gilt lettering and border decoration. First UK Edition. Bound by Hatchards. John Galsworthy OM, 1867 – 1933, was an English novelist and playwright. It was as a playwright he was mainly appreciated at the time although he is now far better known for his novels. His works deal with class and in particular upper-middle class lives. Although sympathetic to his characters he highlights their insular, snobbish and acquisitive attitudes and their suffocating moral codes. He is viewed as one of the first writers of the Edwardian era; challenging in his works some of the ideals of society depicted in the preceding literature of Victorian England. Bound in leather with gilt lettering and border decoration. There is mild wear to the extremities, including mild rubbing and discolouration. Internally the pages are clean, with some slight browning to the page edges. There is an ink inscription on the front free-endpaper. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
