Title: Artis Logicae Rudimenta with Questions on Aldrich&Apos;S Logic
Description: Oxford, J H Parker; J Vincent, 1832-1836. Leather. Two fantastic scarce little educational textbooks. A revised edition of Aldrich's lasting Compendium Artis Logica, bound with an exercise book regarding the former text. Bound in half leather and marbled paper-covered boards, with gilt lettering and decoration. Questions on Aldrich's Logic is the Second Edition. The first work is an abbreviated edition of Aldrich's important work, designed for students. The second is an exercise book, with purposeful interleaved blank pages. It is interesting to note that this edition has numerous pencil annotations, and an ink inscription to the blank after the Questions title page. These two works are not widely held institutionally. With an ink inscription from University College, Dunelm, otherwise known as Durham University, to the front pastedown. Direct from the library at Newton Hall, the 18th century country house and estate in Northumberland, with a pencil shelfmark to the front free-endpaper. Henry Aldrich, 1648 - 1710, was an English theologian and philosopher. He held the position of dean of Christ Church, Oxford and became Vice-Chancellor of the University. "In 1691 Aldrich published Artis logicae compendium, a small treatise on logic which remained a standard textbook at Oxford into the late nineteenth century" -ODNB. Bound in half leather and marbled paper-covered boards, with gilt lettering and decoration. There is only mild wear to the extremities, with just mild rubbing and discoloured marks. The binding is tight and firm. Internally the pages have very slight browning and intermittent foxing. Apart from those mentioned above, there is an ink inscription to the rear pastedown. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
