Volume XVI, numbers 1-6 and volume XVII, numbers 1-6, being all volumes from the year 1905. Volume XVI contains Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Humboldt, Herschel and Darwin. Volume XVII contains Haeckel, Linnaeus, Huxley, Tyndall, Wallace and John Fiske. With a frontispiece to each number showing a portrait of the scientist in question, and with the usual lavish decoration typical of the Roycrofters. Including many interesting advertisements for publications, furniture and courses by the Roycrofters. Elbert Green Hubbard (June 19, 1856 Â May 7, 1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher. Raised in Hudson, Illinois, he met early success as a travelling salesman with the Larkin soap company. Today Hubbard is mostly known as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York, an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement. He and his second wife, Alice Moore Hubbard, died aboard the RMS Lusitania, which was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland on May 7, 1915. In quarter reverse calf bindings with paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart with slight bumping. Internally, firmly bound, bright and generally clean.
