Author: Clara Hall (Editor) Title: The New Original Poems for the Instruction of the Young
Description: London, Edward Lacey, c1830. Leather. A charmingly illustrated collection of poetry for children. A very scarce work. No record can be found of this on Copac, nor any record of it having been sold. Clara Hall is considered one of the more influential compliers, with her other work including The Parent's Present: Original Tales for Youth. This collection of poetry was compiled with the intention to be a recommendation to the young so as to live devotional lives. Still in the pictorial card boards from the publisher, and with several engravings throughout. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. In a quarter calf binding with original paper covered boards, to which is printed the details from the title page and the publisher's advertisements to the rear board. Externally, generally smart. Small loss to backstrip to the head of the spine. Rubbing to the extremities and a few handling marks to boards. Gift inscription to recto of front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained and rather tender in places. Pages are relatively age toned, particularly to the edges with the odd spot throughout. Very Good . Ill.: Unamed.
