He is a powerful public speaker: and during the civil war rendered notable service in arousing and sustaining the sentiment of loyalty to the government and the determination to carry the struggle through to a successful close. He was a member of the New York state board of charities for thirteen years, and is one of the commissioners of the state reservation at Niagara Falls. Complete in two volumes. Uniformly bound in half calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, both volumes are lightly rubbed, with shelfwear to the spines. Volume two has slight loss to the head of the spine. Internally, both volumes are firmly bound. The pages are bright and mostly clean, aside from the odd spot. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
