With a long introductory essay by Gosse discussing his choice of poets, and their strengths and weaknesses. This text is a wonderful cross-section of English poetry and features many of the great Odes over the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Edmund Gosse was an English poet, author and critic. He started his career as an assistant librarian at the British museum. His publications include original verse, biographies, essays and prose. In a full crushed morocco binding. Externally, smart with some rubbing to the spine and joints. Some minor bumping to the extremities also. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Signed binding by J Ramage and Co. With decorative cloth covered endpapers. Gift inscription to verso of front endpaper, E M Curry from Father Easter 1912. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Very Good .
