Author: Wm. Auchinleck, Public Accountant Title: Tables of Interest Calculated at Four, Five, and Six Per Cent with a Short Treatise on Book-Keeping
Description: Belfast, Simms & M'Intyre, 1824. Leather. A handsome and very scarce Victorian economics aid, bearing the bookplate of Irish noteworthy Samuel Cunningham. This scarce work is a fascinating piece of social history, that reminds us that the vast majority of human history is comprised of everyday people going about their everyday lives. This volume contains interest tables calculated at several percentiles for all sums from £1-£30; and thence to £5000 by tens and hundreds. Appended is a short course on bookkeeping and some example ledgers. Samuel Cunningham PC (1862-1946) was an Irish privy councillor, politician, stockbroker, and businessman. He had business interests in the Northern Whig newspaper, and Murray's tobacco. Cunningham served on the Senate of Northern Ireland from 1921 until 1945. His sons included Sir Josias Cunningham (who succeeded him at the family finance firm) and Dunlop Cunningham (who succeeded him at Murray's). In half calf binding, with dark green cloth boards, and gilt lettering to spine. Externally sound. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, to the joint and to the extremities.
