Gilbert Abbott a Beckett (1811 ? 1856) was an English humorist, and contributor to Punch magazine. He is perhaps best known as the author of Comic History of England, Comic History of Rome, Comic Blackstone, and other comic works. Complete in two volumes. Rebound in half-calf with marbled boards. Externally, generally smart, though with some loss to the paper and some rubbing. Internally, generally firmly bound. Ink inscription to front pastedown, and private ex-libris blindstamp to front free-endpaper. Pages are quite bright, though with some slight marginal browning, offsetting from the plates, and some occasional spotting. Slight staining to the final few pages of the second volume also.
