This works discuss the development in furniture during the eighteenth century and provides a detailed look at the furniture making process and designs. Illustrated throughout using both drawings by the author and photographs of real furniture. The first volume of this work only. Undated, dated using Copac. Examples of furniture discussed include chairs, cabinets and clocks. Written by Herbert Cescinsky, an authority on both English and American furniture. Cescinsky wrote several other titles including English Domestic Clocks, English and American Furniture and English Furniture from Gothic to Sheraton. In a half morocco binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, very smart with portions of slight rubbing to the spine and joints, mostly at the head and tail. Small split to the cloth at the outer edge of front board. Marks to boards. Minor bumping to the extremities and small amount of rubbing. Front hinge is strained after first 16 pages. Rear hinge is also strained, resulting in the gatherings for the index to loosen. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper, and evidence of the erasing of another prior owner's inscription. Binding to the first and last few gatherings is loosening due to strained hinges. Otherwise, internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with occasional patches of light spots. Good . Ill.: Various.
