George Meredith, OM (12 February 1828 - 18 May 1909) was an English novelist and poet of the Victorian era. Before his death, Meredith was honoured from many quarters: he succeeded Lord Tennyson as president of the Society of Authors; in 1905 he was appointed to the Order of Merit by King Edward VII. Herbert Bedford was a composer and painter. With an ink inscription from Christmas 1914 to front free endpaper. With a bookseller's label to front pastedown for Henry Sotheran Ltd. York. In a decorative vellum binding with girl details and an illustrated motif to front board, with ribbon fastenings. Externally, sound but with bumping and slight wear to extremities. With some wear and marks to boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. With a closed tear to page with author's signature. Bright with occasional spotting and handling marks to pages. Very Good .
