Description: London, Routledge, Warne and Routledge, 1861. Leather. A scarce Victorian work of wit and humour by this British humourist and poet. Featuring numerous illustrations, including an engraved frontispiece and titlepage vignette. A newspaper clipping with the poem 'Carol' by Mark Lemon has been pasted to the front free-endpaper. In a half leather binding with marbled boards. Externally, worn, with the boards held by the cords only, and the backstrip missing. Internally, the textblock is generally firmly bound, although strained in places, with the first and last few pages attached to the boards. Generally bright, with light foxing throughout. There are tidemarks prominent to the first and last few gatherings, affecting the text. The outer margins of p313 and p315 have small closed tears, which have been previously repaired. Good Only .
